BEECH//BOOK, 2020, archival pigment print

Moody Gallery is pleased to share that Suzanne Bloom and Ed Hill (MANUAL) have been awarded a 2021 Guggenheim Fellowship in Photography by the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation to those “who have already demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts.”

Suzanne Bloom and Ed Hill (MANUAL) began their artistic collaboration in 1974 with their conceptual photographic series Art in Context; Homage to Walter Benjamin. Also considered pioneers of digital photography, exhibitions including their photographs, videos multimedia installations, and digital animations have been seen in over 250 solo and group shows held nationally and internationally. A printed catalogue, MANUAL:errant arcadia (International Center of Photography, NYC, and Houston Artists Fund, 2002) surveys the work from their Arcadian Project, one of twenty-two extended projects they have produced to date.

Their proposed undertaking, BEECH//BOOK; an Emblematic Pairing, will allow them to bring together and explore the multifaceted, dynamic interrelations between two major constructs, Nature and Culture.
